Wendy Perry

A Kama’aina Kid: Born and raised in Hawaii, Wendy Perry started painting houses in the neighborhoods during summer vacations in Kaneohe, Oahu.

At the age of 21, Wendy answered an ad from the landmark “Ilikai Hotel”, to begin an apprenticeship as a “painter” within the general maintenance department. This was to be a diversified job full of skill —where the tricks of the trade were taught— “by the ole timers” who had painted their entire life!

Hand and eye matching paints, putties, varnishes, stain varnishes, brushing and rolling techniques and patching dinged wall coverings. Learning how to prepare all surface types; spraying furniture, shading in lacquers to blend on different surfaces were all part of daily training at the Ilikai Hotel.

A woman, in a non-traditional job, at that particular time and place; “I had to learn everything I could”. So, in 1981, I was off to the big city of Houston, Texas. There I worked for union company’s who did all commercial jobs in painting, wallpapering and drywall taping. After becoming proficient in those disciplines, I came back home to Honolulu.

In 1994, I received my painting contractor’s license in the state of Hawaii, and then began Perry’s Painting. In 2004 I moved to my second home, the Big Island. In 2006 I became a general building contractor.
Currently, we specialize in all phases of painting integrated with the remodeling of kitchens, baths, project management and color consulting.
